He was born in Arequipa region. Very young he started working in a painted glass workshop. There he learned all the process and techniques related with this art. Years later he opened his own workshop together with his relatives. He sold his products to Peruvian export businesses.
Nowadays he produces, mirrors, pictures, coffee tables, glass mat, trays, and paper holders and more, all made with painted glass. In his workshop he employs mothers and low income young people to help the community.
Javier Castillo is one of the founders of APTECPERU and he is willing to work with fair trade market to enlarge his workshop and in this way give more jobs to the community.
